Northernhay Clinic Shockwave Therapy
We have used Shockwave Therapy for a number of years as an aid to our aim of clinical excellence for our patients. We invested in this technology and we are now able to bring this safe, quick and effective treatment with few side effects to you at reasonable cost.
At the 3rd Podiatric Sports Medicine Conference 2014 in London, the internationally renowned physician Prof. H. Lohrer lecturing on Achilles Tendon stated that Shockwave Therapy will probably replace steroid injections in the next 10 years for certain chronic conditions.
What is Shockwave Therapy?
During Shockwave Therapy, a high-intensity sound wave interacts with the tissues of the body. This leads to a cascade of beneficial effects such as neovascularisation ingrowth, reversal of chronic inflammation, stimulation of collagen and dissolution of calcium build-up. Stimulation of these biological mechanisms creates an optimal healing environment. As the injured area is returned to normal, functionality is restored and pain is relieved.
For Heel Pain
Plantar fasciitis is the medical term for pain in the heel caused by inflammation of the insertions of a soft tissue structure called the plantar aponeurosis or plantar fascia. In rare and chronic cases where biomechanical and orthotic therapy do not totally relieve symptoms or where patients want the best chance of express relief of symptoms, 3 or 4 sessions of shockwave therapy can make a tremendous difference.
For Achilles Tendon Pain
Achylodina is the medical term for pain and inflammation in the Achilles tendon and/or tendon sheath. Again, in chronic cases where biomechanical and orthotic therapy do not totally relieve symptoms or where patients want the best chance of express relief of symptoms, again 3 or 4 sessions of shockwave therapy can make a tremendous difference.
Shockwave therapy is also used by our physio collegues with great results.
Conditions that may be helped by shockwave therapy by a physio include: Ilio-tibial band syndrome, patella tendonitis, hip bursitis, golfers elbow, tennis elbow, calcified shoulder tendonitis.
How Many and How Much?
Surprisingly little is the answer to these question. About 3 treatments is all that is required in most instances. Provided you have had (or are currently having) orthotics and podiatry treatment in the last 12 months, we offer 3 treatments for £175.00 to our exisiting patients. The podiatrist will advise if you are likely to benefit. This treatment is for specific problems and is not suitable for everyone. Non- qualifying patients can check here for our shockwave fees.
