Podiatry and Back/Postural Problems

The feet, ankles, legs, hips, pelvis and spine all act together as a 'Kinetic chain'. That is to say that all these structures act together to move us from one step to another. No structure can be looked at individually. An holistic approach to back, pelvis and posture will include a good look at the overall function.
At Northernhay Clinic, we like to work with your Physio, Osteopath or Chiropractor to help the management of your condition.
Why Podiatry Could Help Your Back
Flat feet do not allow normal shock absorptive movements to occur in the foot. Abnormal movements pass up the limb and can cause stress in the pelvis an spine.
High arched feet - often do not allow enough movement to absorb shock
Limb length - one leg longer than the other will tilt the pelvis and cause spinal/pelvic stress.
The feet are the foundations of the body and 'The Wheels Of The Spine'. Correcting abnormal or excessive foot movements improve the function of the body above.
Orthotics tend to improve the overall posture of the user. Often patients comment that they feel 'an inch taller' with orthotics in their footwear.
