What Is Podiatry?

Podiatry treatments deal with problems of the foot, ankle, limb and pelvis. Even low back conditions can sometimes be treated by a Podiatrist.

Injuries to the limb and pelvis, broadly speaking are due to either traumatic injuries and accidents or from overuse due to our biomechanics (the way feet, knees, hips and ankles move together as we are walking or running.)

Podiatrists understand how the joints of the foot, ankle and limb should move and correction of foot condition can reduce or treat injuries. The foot being the foundation of the body (not unlike the foundations of a house) is often where abnormal movements start. Prescription Foot Orthotics are often used by Podiatrists to correct foot movements. Correcting foot movements can have a positive effect on knee, hip and spine function. Posture in orthotic wearers is often improved as is general comfort in everyday activities & sporting activities.
