About Foot Orthotics

"Foot orthotics are the cornerstone of Podiatry Practice. It is the art and skill of the prescribing practitioner that determines a sucessful patient outcome"

Foot orthotics at Northernhay Clinic are prescription made and tailored to each individual patient's need. Prescription Orthotics are made following a biomechanical examination which includes a history and physical examination. Most patients will be viewed moving on a treadmill to assess the extent of abnormal movement patterns and from where the abnormal movements originate (from which segements of the foot, limb and pelvic excessive/abnormal movements are originating).

Casts are taken of both feet and often these casts include an element of manual correction of the underlying pathological foot structure. Effective foot orthoses require great skill and technical experience if they are to be effective. Jonathan Palmer Bsc(pod) MChS HPC Registered Podiatrist has 14 years experience prescribing orthoses.

"Jonathan Palmer is amongst the finest of Podiatrists that I have worked with over my years rehabilitating military personnel. His attention and eyes for detail and ability to create great orthotic shapes which maintain anatomical detail is a rare find. A perfectionist with an eye for correct movement."
